WHS Friday Message

From Principal Allyson Mizoguchi

March 13, 2026
Yesterday during a special Extended Advisory, we continued our work to build a stronger community where we promote love, inclusion, and trust (the LIT framework). Using scenarios that depict harmful peer behavior – such as the use of slurs and racist social media posts – students practiced the “IQE” (Interrupt, Question, Educate) approach that our speaker jamele adams introduced to us during his assembly last week. Students were open and honest in their sharing and reflections. We will engage in more of this work this spring.

Winter Sports Recap and Highlights

We are proud of all of our winter teams – there is lots to celebrate both collectively and individually! Please check out this detailed and exciting winter season summary by Athletics Assistant Erin Ryan: Athletics Updates

And, don’t forget to register for spring sports (tryouts start on Monday!).

Course Selection & Special Note on Wellness

Earlier this week, I sent out this memo to students in grades 9-11 and their families regarding the next step of the course selection process. Students and families have until next Friday, March 20, to complete their course requests in PowerSchool for the 26-27 school year.

Starting in 26-27, we will shift to a new approach to how students participate in Wellness. Students will choose from a variety of new, high-interest electives throughout their high school journey in addition to completing core classes in health, fitness, Project Adventure, and Mentors in Violence Prevention. This shift is primarily due to new Wellness state standards and student feedback. Students have received an overview of these changes in their current wellness classes; more information is on page 45 of our Program of Studies.

Congratulations & Updates!

  • Congratulations to Kaileigh Walker, who won first place in the 2026 Massachusetts School Library Association Bookmark Contest! Kaileigh’s beautiful and inspiring bookmark will be on display and available in our library.

  • Good luck to the cast and crew of To Parents and Other Neighbors as they participate in the Semi Final Round of the METG Drama Festival tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at WHS! Their original piece explores the real-life story of Anne Hale, a Wayland elementary teacher during the height of the Red Scare. Audiences are raving about its powerful themes and performances!

  • Congratulations to the WHS Science Team, who placed 12th out of 77 towns at the Science Olympiad State Tournament last weekend. I'm delighted to share that the following students placed in the Top 10 in events pertaining to epidemiology, genetics, botany, environmental science, mechanics, engineering, mathematics, scientific communication, and general sciences: Jonathan W. Yu, Kent Smith, Daniel Chau, Loui Takahashi, Arjun Kumar, Glen Burt, Maxwell Glynn, Iniyan Gandhi, Joah Bigord, Elijah Maali-Pohl, Susannah Pepi, Junyi Frenzel, Cassandra Kasdorf, Saara Topi, Avinash Kumar, and Mohana Kantamaneni.

Enjoy the weekend!
